In documents relating to demonology in the Wintergreen area, Ballybub is described as the "Throne of Memory and Celebration", having a long history of guiding those worth celebrating into rest. Known to be 300 cubits in height and "statured as if [he] held the sky aloft on [his] tail", he would take those gathered by the pale rider who did great deeds and bring them to a feast and celebration lasting "forty days and forty nights", with the final night allowing them to rest, full of the food and entertainment they seeked in life.
In the current day, Ballybub resides as the main performer and main attraction at the Bottlegreen Fairground in the Malachite Desert, specializing in various carnival tricks and prized by the locals for his jovial demeanor and zest for keeping the fairground alive.
Biography
Summoning
Late July 20YX, a group of teenagers associated with the fairground began to tamper with documents and research used by the other performers for convincing set dressing during the fall holiday season. After recreating a sigil and means to a summoning, it was reported a pillar of fire sprouted into the sky miles over the fairground, and standing in the circle after was Ballybub. Due to complications and inexperience in his summoning, the demon was left without his full power, but was immediately enamored with the fairground and its folk to the point of ignoring the reason of his summoning (allegedly to ruin the fairgrounds).
Ballybub's quick actions, thick polari speech, and general attitude to the fairgrounds gave him an immediate place along the carnival, his impromptu performances out on the streets quickly evolving into giving him space under the big top and his name added to the cast list. Specializing in acrobatics and various stunts, his natural durability allows him more flexability and the freedom to do performances too risky for the human entertainers.
Skills
According to demonologists in the area, Ballybub is a demon of many skills and magical abilities. Due to the botched nature of his summoning, he has expressed a general limitation of his abilities, but the high-intensity nature of his stunts and performances show a high tolerance to pain and extreme aptitude for flexability, strength, hand-eye coordination, and athletics, as well as a surprising skill for languages, citing a large amount of polyglots where he is from.
Notes
- Ballybub's first meal upon summoning was a large soda, a large bucket of kettlecorn, an elephant ear with strawberry jam, and a soft pretzel. The same meal is currently available from the food stall he got it from, named after him, and a regular order for the demon.
- An aptitude for sword swallowing has lead to multiple occasions where the sword goes in, but not out. It is a regular occurance, to the point where it has happened with juggling pins and other props.
- Ballybub's current outfit is made out of the old bigtop curtain. He expresses that it isn't far off from what he wore normally before the summoning.
- He is known to have many "nests" around the fairground, spaces where he rests between performances. His favorites are the top of the ring toss stall, a hammock set up in the center of the ferris wheel, a decomissioned teacup ride car in the backlot, the decorative peak tent of the big top, and the middle of the backlot office hallways.
- He smells like fried food, but keeps himself very clean otherwise.
