Biography
Early Years
Born in the coastal area of the city, Jasper got his start in the art scene through a scholarship provided by the city. Making a name for himself, he showed a great interest in copying the masters, regularly creating stylistic copies of masterworks, with a particular taste for dark shadows and harsh contrast. At some point in his scholarship he had assisted in setup of an art exhibit in the Wintergreen Museum - and, noteworthily, had his own masterwork copies displayed for a time on accident, being nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.
An unfortunate incident caused him to drop out of his scholarship and go into a deep slump, producing no art and effectively isolating himself from the world in this time, before returning to the Art world under the umbrella of appraisal, getting a keen eye for determining fakes or copies.
Forgery & Arrest
In 20X7, the SoWi Art Gallery had opened to a crowd of 20,000, with a great deal of modern artists displaying their pieces, including some selected works of Jasper Breitweiser, having returned to art a year prior and providing the space with "filler pieces" from his backlog, and allowed him a space backstage during the auction later that night. During this time, he studied the pieces up for auction near his displays and copied them, impulsively switching them out and hiding the original pieces in an unlabeled storage crate behind the stage. Allegedly, this was repeated for three more auctions, before being caught on security footage moving the forged pieces back to the displays. He plead guilty and, after 5 years of imprisonment, was released and put under house arrest, having his sentence adjusted to an equivalent of 15 years of community service due to good behavior. An agreement with court officials allowed him back into the art world in hopes of using his community service time to taking his own forged pieces out of circulation.
Breitweiser False Museum
December 20YX saw the opening of the Breitweiser False Museum, a private gallery of all of the individual pieces found by Jasper that were falsified. Included are portraits, jewelry, forged money, and even a small wing dedicated to his own pieces, with a pane of glass in the middle aisle one can look through to see "Tells" - parts of the paintings that Jasper believes "gave [him] away". Over 200 forged artworks can be seen, alongside over $50,000 in forged bills and 45 pieces of jewelry. The museum is open to the public on the first Thursday of every month, and is often attended by Jasper for guided tours alongside parole officers.
